In the game's files, the faceless characters are referred as MANNEQUINS, implying that these versions are a product of BLACK SPACE or remnants from OMORI's previous adventures before resetting HEADSPACE multiple times.The faceless variants of BASIL and MARI are the only characters that have different portraits when spoken to more than one time, which foreshadows their importance to game's backstory and SUNNY himself.This presumably refers to either SUNNY or BASIL, as both are deeply devastated over their past actions regarding MARI's death, to point of wanting to kill themselves out of sheer guilt.The whole layout of the FACELESS AREA secretly spells out an disturbing message that reads KILL ME.The FACELESS AREA is one of the ten optional BLACK SPACE areas the player can explore.After collecting the key, several RED HANDS will spawn and interacting with them will take OMORI back to the center hub of BLACK SPACE. These portraits won't appear again once OMORI is done doing these events. Interacting with MARI a third time causes the demonic HELLMARI to appear instead of her usual face. As for MARI, talking to her twice will turn her portrait into the SOMETHING that haunted him for years.
If OMORI interacts with BASIL twice, his face will suddenly be covered by his SOMETHING. However, there are only two characters that have special portraits, consisting of BASIL and MARI. Interacting with them will simply give out an empty dialogue box. All of them are wandering around the area without any stop in their movement. When OMORI enters the room, he finds himself with faceless versions of his friends. Other than that, there is not that much to do but interact with the faceless mannequins and obtain the key to exit the room. There are also few remnants of OMORI's friends stuck on the floor. OMORI can still follow them and interact with them, only to receive no special response from them, although BASIL and MARI are exceptions. The characters constantly roam around without stopping at all.
The background is mainly colored with a mix of black and light-purple tints. The FACELESS AREA takes on the appearance of an desolate room featuring faceless versions of OMORI's friends from HEADSPACE.
